PERSONALITY
As a human, Jerry is everything that his vampire counterpart isn't. The only thing they share is a driving sense of survival. He is optimistic and hopeful. He wants nothing more than to protect people and keep them safe. He's open, friendly and genuine, finding a piece of mind when he can. Despite the constant running for his life and knowing torment is around the corner, he's managed to hold on to hope. Because each person he's saved, each vampire he's killed (and therefore saving that poor soul from any further torment), is what keeps him going.
But that doesn't mean he's soft. Under all of that is a core of solid steel. Forged from over a decade of survival and more brushes with death than he can count. It's what gives him the strength to keep fighting, to not give up. The conviction that supports his holding out hope.
Despite that strength, though, he is still incredibly afraid. All three aspects feed into each other, making him stronger. But there is still a great deal of fear involved. As long as he can maintain some sense of control, that fear can be maintained. There are very specific things which make him uneasy and start to shake that conviction.
But overall, he is a warm, kind and trusting person. Ready and willing to help anyone that he can, in any way possible. Never asking for anything in return. At least, he will be, once he recovers from what the Mirror Barge has already done to him.

HISTORY
Life on the Mirror Barge has not been kind. But Jerry continues to hold out hope. He's fought against the forces of evil for more than half his life, and he's not going to stop now.
When he was a teenager, his family was killed. His mother had left when he was just a child, so she was safe. But his father and two older brothers were victims of a vicious and sadistic vampire who called himself Peter Vincent. The only reason Jerry survived was he ran. Or so he thought. The vampire left him alive, to let the kid mature. Following him where ever he went. Letting him marinate in his fear, day after day. For years. The first time Jerry ran into Peter after this attack, he found out that his assumptions had been wrong. His brothers hadn't perished, but had instead been turned. His middle brother was the first vampire Jerry killed, and that look on his brother's face, of relief and acceptance, still haunts him. But his elder brother was too strong. He barely escaped the encounter.
Over time, Jerry learned how to fight. How to combat the evil at his doorstep. Holy water, fire, stakes. Crosses weren't the best. Beheading. But he never made any progress. He'd wipe out a nest, but in a few months, it was back again. More than once, they almost had him. Trapped. Plans to turn him. But he'd escape. Flee to the next town. But death followed him. He knew the targets Peter would hit. The types of neighborhoods. The types of people. He tried to save them. To protect them. But Peter was always several steps ahead. After several years, it seemed Peter and Jerry's brother had parted ways. Or perhaps the brother had been killed. Jerry didn't know.
Finally, in the suburbs of Las Vegas, Jerry found a few allies. Two high school students, swept up in this nightmare, their friends captured, dead or turned. An over eager Ed, armed with pieced together knowledge and more enthusiasm than actual bravery. And Amy, brave and skilled enough to back it up.
But Ed charged in the day before they were to execute their plan, and ended up killed in the process. It was up to Jerry and Amy to take on their forces. But they weren't prepared. It was Charley who claimed the hunter. Latching onto him in the dark. Tearing him apart. Before the bites could take, before he could change, he found himself in the Barge. A prisoner. Brought there to be reformed. To be twisted into something like that which he'd ran from.
Hope and conviction can only hold out so long. After merely a month, the constant torment and manipulation by the Barge's wardens has started to take it's toll. At the time of the event, he will be close to his breaking point. No longer trusting anyone, paranoid of the dark and anyone with glowing eyes. Likely horribly sleep deprived. Another week or two and he would have broken. Ready to be reshaped into a ruthless monster. But with the event, he'll be given a break. A chance to recover and regroup.
